Direct Support Professional (DSP)
The Direct Support Professional provides essential support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, promoting their independence and quality of life. This role involves assisting with daily activities, implementing personalized goals, and fostering social interactions in a safe and respectful environment.
Qualifications

Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

High School Diploma required.

Two (2) years of experience with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Duties

Lead Direct Support Professional
The Lead Direct Support Professional oversees and guides a team of Direct Support Professionals in providing high-quality care to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. This role includes coordinating care plans, training staff, and ensuring a safe, supportive environment that promotes client independence and community engagement.
Qualifications

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

At least two (2) years of work-related experience with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Duties
-
Transportation:
-
Serve as the driver or second person on van runs when staff are off duty or arriving late.
-

Medical Appointments:
-
Escort individuals to medical appointments.
-

Fire & Disaster Drills:
-
Prepare for and document fire and disaster drills.
-
Ensure staff are knowledgeable about evacuation procedures, including gathering necessary items like HCMP, Health Passport, PMOF, MAR with medication, PEPP, and Fire/Disaster book.​

Program and Recreational Data:
-
Complete and review program data, recreational data, MARs, and daily progress notes.

Report deficiencies to your supervisor. If unresolved within three (3) days, elevate the issue to other supervisors. Health and safety issues must be resolved immediately, but no later than four (4) hours.

Fire Safety Equipment:

Check fire safety equipment such as extinguishers and pull stations as scheduled.

Backup Staffing:

Provide coverage for vacation, sick leave, call-offs, and emergency staff needs.

Data Entries:

Review and ensure completeness of data entries in program books.

Report incomplete entries to the manager or QIDP/Residential Coordinator.

Co-worker Support:

Report attendance, lateness, and any other staff issues to your supervisor for follow-up.

Staff Breaks:

Cover staff breaks as needed.

Grocery Management:

Complete grocery lists according to each diet.

Ensure proper storage, rotation, and labeling of all foods.

Adaptive Equipment:

Check adaptive equipment and report corrective issues to the Residential House Manager and QIDP/Residential Coordinator.

Clothing Inventory:

Process and document clothing inventory for each individual.

Environmental Maintenance:

Ensure kitchen equipment, adaptive tools (e.g., food scale, measuring cup), and household furnishings are maintained.

Van Maintenance:

Check the van for maintenance, safety, and cleanliness, and maintain a daily updated driver’s log report.

Report damages, vehicular accidents, or acts of vandalism to your supervisor immediately.

House Manager
The House Manager oversees the daily operations of the residential home.
Qualifications

At least one (1) year of experience with the intellectually and developmentally disabled population. Preferable: some experience in supervising.

Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) Residential Coordinator
The QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional) / Residential Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing individualized care plans for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The QIDP works closely with residents to develop and implement tailored care plans that address their unique needs, preferences, and goals by collaborating with interdisciplinary teams—including healthcare providers, therapists, and support staff.

Program Coordination:

Coordinate and monitor all day and residential program services for Persons.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN Nurse Case Manager will provide case management services, which include training, testing, and occasional supervision of unlicensed personnel responsible for the day-to-day care of developmentally disabled persons (“Persons”). The role also involves reviewing patient records, interpreting medical orders, assessing medical needs, and planning for the care of such Persons. Direct care provision is generally not included in this role.

Must be licensed by the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland.

Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including the Maryland/DC Nurse Practice Act/Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) Title 10, Subtitle 27 Chapter 10, Sections 02 through 03 regarding standards of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.

Must comply with DC Regulation 35 Code and DC Department of Health, State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH), and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) regulations, particularly health general article #7-904, Annotated Code of Maryland 10.22.02.12D(1-4) regarding medication administration.

Conduct health nursing assessments for each new Person admitted to a Group Home within ten (10) days of admission as assigned by the RN.

Interdisciplinary Team Participation:

Conduct monthly reviews of all physician and dentist orders in each Person’s record.

Consult regularly with RH/OH/Residential/Day Program management to ensure the implementation of nursing recommendations.

Review any medical/medication incidents to ensure adequate medical attention is provided and proper follow-up is done.

Ensure the implementation of SYMBRAL Medication, Nursing Delegation, and Medical/Nursing guidelines and policies.

Registered Nurse (RN)
Case Manager/Delegating Nurse Services generally encompass services provided by licensed Registered Nurses acting in the role of a Delegating Nurse. These services include training, testing, and supervision of RNs, as well as occasional supervision of unlicensed personnel responsible for the day-to-day direct care of developmentally disabled persons (“Persons”). Additional responsibilities include reviewing patient records, interpreting medical orders, assessing medical needs, and planning for the care of such Persons. Direct care provision is generally not included in this role.

Must perform duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including the DC and Maryland Nurse Practice Act/Code of District of Columbia Chapter 16, 35, and 37 Regulation, governing standards of Nursing Practice.

Must adhere to Maryland regulation (COMAR) Title 10, Subtitle 27 Chapter 09, Sections 02 through 03 regarding governing standards of practice for Registered Nurses, and COMAR Title 10, Subtitle 27, Chapter 11 Sections 03 through 06 regarding delegation of nursing function.

Ensure monthly reviews of MAR and physician/dentist orders for each Person are conducted by RNs or LPNs.

Include reviews of the Person’s records, direct observations, and review of storage and disposal of medications procedures.

Monitor that Certified Medication Technicians follow SYMBRAL’s recommended procedures and DDA/DDS regulations for reporting medication administration errors.

Submit written reports to MBON as required by applicable Maryland Law, upon determination that Certified Medication Technicians have failed to comply with MBON/DCBON regulations.
